Highlights for Am Law Q1 2022: robust Q1 with strong March signals promising year; Commercial  Litigation, M&A and IP round out top practice area moves; NYC, D.C., L.A., San Fran and Dallas are hottest markets; Greenberg Traurig snags most M&A partners

WHAT WE’RE SEEING

Healthy Start to 2022: The first quarter opened 2022 on a good foot, tallying 551 partner moves to Am Law 100 firms. January (185 moves), February (177) and March (189) were each fairly consistent, ending on an uptick, so we’re feeling confident the momentum will continue through Q2 and the rest of the year.

Litigation Most Active Practice Area: Commercial Litigation and Corporate M&A Securities added the most lateral partners in Q1 by a healthy margin. The Commercial Litigation numbers were boosted in no small part by Nelson Mullins making a sizeable increase to its litigation team (adding 42 lateral partners).   

New York Reigns King: New York netted nearly twice the number of Am Law 100 moves as the next hottest market (Washington, D.C.). Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas rounded out the top 5 markets. 

Greenberg Traurig Scores 8 M&A Partners: The firm that acquired the most new Corporate M&A Securities partners in Q1 was Greenberg Traurig, adding eight partners across its Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Portland offices.

Hogan Lovells and Morrison & Foerster followed, each adding seven partners to its M&A practice area.
