Q2 2024 Highlights for Am Law 100: 513 moves total; most partner moves occurred in April; most active markets: NYC, D.C., Boston, L.A. & Chicago; partners from classes of 2011 & 2013 had the most moves. 

WHAT WE’RE SEEING

2024 Q2 MOVES ARE UP 18 PERCENT OVER LAST YEAR

Activity in Q2 2024 is up 18 percent over Q2 2023, with 513 moves compared to last year’s 418. Slightly more moves occurred in Q2 than Q1 of this year, with about a 3 percent uptick. The most active second quarter of the past four years was Q2 of 2022 with 686 moves.

NYC, D.C., BOSTON, L.A. & CHICAGO: MOST ACTIVE MARKETS

NYC was the most active market in Q2, followed by D.C., Boston, L.A., and Chicago. These five markets accounted for 57 percent of partner moves across the country.

PARTNERS FROM LAW SCHOOL CLASSES OF 2011 & 2013 WERE MOST ACTIVE

Partners who graduated from law school in 2011 and 2013 moved the most this quarter with 30 moves each. Classes from ’11 – ’15 accounted for 21 percent of total moves. Consistent with other years and quarters, partners with 10 – 15 years of experience moved the most. 

ACTIVITY IS UP BY 12 PERCENT OVER LAST YEAR

The first half of 2024 showed 12 percent more partner moves than the first half of 2023. To date, March and April are the most active months of 2024, with March showing 5 percent more activity than April.
