WHAT WE’RE SEEING
MOST ACTIVE Q1 IN THE PAST 5 YEARS
Q1 2025 was 13 percent more active than Q1 2024 and the most active Q1 in the past 5 years.
Activity this quarter is up 49 percent over Q4 2024 and eight percent over Q2, the strongest quarter of 2024. Q1 movement suggests that 2025 might be more active than the past five years.
NYC, D.C., L.A., CHICAGO SAN FRANCISCO, & ATLANTA: MOST ACTIVE MARKETS
NYC was the most active market, followed by D.C., L.A., Chicago, San Francisco & Atlanta.
Atlanta & San Francisco had the same number of moves, making Atlanta one of the most active markets for the first time.
PARTNERS WITH 10 – 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WERE MOST ACTIVE
Partners who graduated from law school 10 – 20 years ago were the largest group of movers in Q1.
The classes of ’05 and ’10 had the most moves, with 33 each. The class of ’04 had the second-highest number, with 29.
MOST PARTNERS MOVED IN FEBRUARY
Most partners moved in February. Of the 565 total moves, 247 were in February, 191 in January, and 127 in March. In Q1 of last year, most partners moved in March, followed February and January respectively.
